Archive

For 3+ years DUKA has gathered more than 3,000 unique vintage and contemporary textiles. Each and every textile is carefully photographed and catalogued to include a translation of its unique Swahili proverb, creating an archive documenting the identity of the Kenyan coastal region through these patterned social cloths. This archive is a source of creative inspiration and cultural interpretation for DUKA and we aspire to translate the contents of our textile and proverb archive into an educational book or exhibition.
